Description
ACM SIGHPC runs the Computational & Data Science Fellowships to increase diversity among students pursuing graduate degrees and in the computing workforce. Continuing a program begun with Intel, the fellowships support women and students from racial or ethnic backgrounds underrepresented in computing. Students may pursue degrees at institutions anywhere in the world, and the stipend supplements support already provided by their institutions.
Computational science includes research using computational modeling and simulation as its primary methods, such as computational chemistry, wildfire modeling, and computational hydrodynamics. Data science uses computational analysis of large-scale data as the basis for research, including ecological informatics and financial analytics. The program favors candidates from disciplines outside computer science who bring new perspectives, alongside strong potential for excellence in these research areas.
