--- ## Description The ACMS Field Research Fellowship, administered by the American Center for Mongolian Studies, provides funding for US students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty to undertake short-term field research projects in Mongolia. The fellowship is designed to encourage collaboration between researchers and experienced Research Sponsors, strengthen US-Mongolian academic ties, and enhance participants’ research, teaching, and outreach capabilities. Awardees receive logistical support and pre-departure information from ACMS offices and are required to submit a final report reflecting on their research and its potential impact on their academic or career trajectory. --- ## Due Dates - March 2026 (Full application deadline, anticipated/projected) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Up to $4,000 per individual award. - Up to $8,000 per joint application (student + post-doc/faculty). - Allowable expenses include domestic/international airfare, in-country transportation, and up to $1,000/month for a research stipend (unless otherwise agreed). - Funding may supplement other awards; applicants are encouraged to seek additional sources. --- ## Eligibility - **Citizenship:** Open only to US citizens. - **Academic Status:** - Students: Must be enrolled full-time at a US university or college (undergraduates must have at least third-year standing; graduate students at master’s, pre-dissertation, or doctoral candidacy level). Recent graduates are also eligible. - Post-docs/Faculty: Must be employed at least part-time and regularly teach at least one course at a US university or college. Priority is given to those from non-research-intensive institutions. - **Research Sponsor:** Required for all applicants. Must be a faculty member or senior researcher with relevant experience, able to host the project in Mongolia. Strong preference for direct, in-field collaboration. - **Research Duration:** - Students: Minimum 6 weeks of fieldwork in Mongolia. - Post-docs/Faculty: Minimum 3 weeks of fieldwork. - All research must be conducted between May and October. - **Fields:** All academic disciplines (humanities, sciences, social sciences) are eligible. - **Other:** Applicants must be medically fit for travel and research in Mongolia.
