Description
The American Chemical Society’s Award for Affordable Green Chemistry recognizes scientific discoveries that lay the foundation for environmentally friendly products or manufacturing processes at a cost comparable to or below current technologies. It also recognizes discoveries that create new applications with compelling cost-benefit profiles. The award seeks eco-friendly chemistry with the potential to make products or processes less expensive than existing alternatives.
ACS considers both green chemistry and practical affordability. A discovery may fit existing manufacturing infrastructure with little or no additional investment in equipment or personnel. A new product may instead demonstrate compelling economics after accounting for available alternatives and manufacturing costs. Established in 2007, the award is supported by an endowment created by Rohm and Haas.
