The American Chemical Society’s Global Innovation Imperatives (Gii) program funds multi-day research forums and conferences that contribute to resolving global sustainability issues. It fosters creative solutions and collaborative action among diverse ACS members, bringing together researchers, committees, divisions, and local experts to present existing research and discuss further solutions. Past projects have addressed water quality, healthcare, and agricultural practices.
Projects focus on a specific geographical area and one or two science-related UN Sustainable Development Goals. Activities include virtual or hybrid symposia, meetings, and webinars. Participants develop a white paper capturing findings and suggested solutions, typically with a science writer’s help, and share their work through an ACS-associated scientific meeting. The research must extend beyond events held in the award year rather than support short-term investigations.
