--- ## Description The ACS-Hach Second Career Teacher Scholarship is designed for professionals with a background in chemistry who wish to pursue a new career as a high school chemistry teacher. The scholarship provides financial support for obtaining a master's degree in education or secondary chemistry/science teacher certification, along with mentoring and professional development resources. Recipients are expected to commit to teaching high school chemistry for at least three years and can use the scholarship for tuition, books, room and board, and other education-related expenses. The award is renewable for up to three years. --- ## Due Dates - **May 1, 2026:** Full application deadline (2026 ACS-Hach Second Career Teacher Scholarship) - **May 1, 2026:** Scholarship renewal form deadline for current recipients (renewal submission due by May 1) --- ## Funding Amount - **Full-time students:** Up to $6,000 per academic year - **Part-time students:** Up to $3,000 per academic year - **Renewable:** Up to three years (contingent on continued eligibility and renewal application) - Funds are distributed in two equal installments per academic year and paid directly to the recipient’s institution. --- ## Eligibility Applicants must: - Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry or a chemistry-related discipline (e.g., biochemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science with a chemistry focus, etc.). - Have at least one year of work experience in a chemistry-related profession. - Have no more than one year of experience as a high school chemistry teacher. - Be accepted into (or currently enrolled in) a master's in education program or a teacher certification program with a focus on chemistry/science. - Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. **Note:** Recent graduates or those with less than one year of chemistry-related work experience should consider the [ACS-Hach Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Scholarship](https://www.acs.org/funding/scholarships-fellowships/acs-hach-post-baccalaureate-teacher-scholarship.html). --- ## Application Process 1. **Create an account** on the ACS scholarship application portal. 2. **Submit a Letter of Intent (LOI):** This is reviewed by ACS staff to ensure eligibility. 3. **Complete the application:** Upon LOI approval, submit required materials including: - Two email addresses (for contact and account purposes) - One-page resume or CV - Transcripts from all degree-granting institutions - Admittance letter from your educational program - Personal narrative covering motivation, experience, and career goals 4. **Submit the application** by May 1, 2026.
