The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Gulf Research Program (GRP) runs ACT Mobile, a multi-phase initiative to strengthen community collaboration around disasters affecting health and resilience in Mobile County, Alabama. Launched in 2025, the initiative brought together local nonprofits, foundations, academia, and government to develop an evidence-based, community-driven framework of disaster-adaptation priorities.
Phase 2 implementation grants support planning grantees in putting place-based solutions into practice. Projects should build networks for resource exchange or develop human capital through education and training, leveraging relationships established during planning. The intended outcomes are stronger community assets and early signs of improved health and resilience. Findings and lessons will be shared with local stakeholders, GRP partners, and other Gulf communities interested in testing or investing in effective disaster-adaptation solutions.
