Description
The California Transportation Commission’s Active Transportation Program (ATP) funds capital projects, community-wide plans, and education and encouragement programs that increase walking, biking, and rolling across California. Created by Senate Bill 99, it also supports safer travel for nonmotorized users, public health, and regional greenhouse gas reduction efforts. Safe Routes to School projects are part of the program.
ATP serves urban and rural communities, with a statutory requirement that each program component direct at least 25% of its funds to projects benefiting disadvantaged communities. The Commission encourages projects that create accessible mobility opportunities and transformative benefits for a community or region.
