Description
The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program supports volunteer litter removal along designated highway sections throughout Kansas. It helps protect land and waterways, reduce harm to people and animals, save tax dollars, and provide meaningful civic service. Urban and rural highway sections are available, with lengths adjusted where possible to meet participating groups’ needs.
KDOT provides cleanup stipends, trash bags, safety vests, instructional safety materials, and signs recognizing participating groups. The program focuses on community service rather than advertising or promoting businesses, causes, or political views. Safety for volunteers and drivers is the top priority: roadside activities and volunteers’ appearance must not distract traffic or create unsafe conditions.
