The Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco Study Group (ADTSG) of the Society for Medical Anthropology offers this competitive travel award to support contingent faculty participation in the American Anthropological Association (AAA) Annual Meeting. It supports the presentation of papers engaging questions related to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other psychoactive substance use, rather than funding a separate research project.
The published award supports participation in the 2026 AAA Annual Meeting in St. Louis and is open to both online and in-person presenters. Adjuncts, instructors, postdoctoral scholars, and people in similar non-tenure positions are eligible. A committee composed of ADTSG members reviews applications.
