The Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco Study Group (ADTSG) of the Society for Medical Anthropology offers an annual, competitive travel award for graduate students presenting at the American Anthropological Association (AAA) Annual Meeting. The award supports conference participation associated with a paper engaging questions about alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other psychoactive substance use, rather than a separate research project.
The published 2026 competition supported participation in the AAA Annual Meeting in St. Louis and was open to both online and in-person presenters. Applications are reviewed by a committee of ADTSG members. The study group brings together medical anthropologists and other social scientists researching alcohol, drugs, and tobacco to network, share information, and collaborate.
