The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), in collaboration with the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), offers a one-year, part-time, primarily remote leadership development program focused on improving diagnosis. Up to 10 scholars receive grant support, monthly educational sessions, and mentorship to strengthen diagnostic quality and safety and become national leaders in reducing diagnostic errors and patient harm.
The program welcomes diagnosis-related work across disciplines, including physicians, advanced practice clinicians, quality experts, informaticians, and researchers. It emphasizes implementing effective strategies relevant to the U.S. health care system. Strong preference is given to proposals addressing specific recommendations of the 2015 National Academies report, Improving Diagnosis in Health Care, when applicable. Diagnostic excellence encompasses care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, and efficient.
