Description
The AGA Research Foundation administers this award with support from the R. Robert and Sally D. Funderburg Charitable Trust. It supports established investigators developing novel approaches to understand gastric cancer pathobiology or prevent, treat or cure the disease. Basic, translational and clinical research are eligible, with preference given to innovative approaches.
Research interests include gastric mucosal cell biology, regeneration and regulation of cell growth, inflammation including Helicobacter pylori as precancerous lesions, and the genetics, oncogenes, epidemiology and etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies. Clinical research may address diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma. The program also supports work addressing evidence gaps in AGA’s gastric intestinal metaplasia surveillance guideline, including health services research on implementing the guideline in clinical practice.
