Description

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation administers the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program (ARIP) within its Local Roads Improvement Program. ARIP helps local governments improve deteriorating roads, bridges, and culverts that restrict movement of agricultural goods, including forest products. It supports improvements to existing local roads and minor collectors that serve agricultural lands or production facilities.

Projects are competitively reviewed for benefits to producers, including improved access, fewer trips and miles driven, lower transport costs, and positive economic impact. The selection committee also considers whether a route provides the only feasible access, the amount of agricultural goods transported, and fiscal or administrative difficulties faced by the sponsoring local government.
