    Description

The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) provides Local Lecture Grants to help its local societies expand their archaeological programming. The grants support additional virtual or in-person lectures beyond the one in-person lecture each society receives. Each grant carries the name of someone special to the AIA community. Some named grants support any topic, while others are restricted to particular subjects or geographic areas.

The program accommodates a broad range of archaeological regions, periods, and themes, including Mediterranean, African, Middle Eastern, and New World archaeology, Aegean prehistory, classical archaeology, and the Middle Ages. Topics also include heritage management, ancient architecture and gardens, agricultural origins, science in archaeology, ancient astronomy, and shipwrecks. AIA matches proposed lectures with appropriate named grants, so societies do not need to identify a particular endowment themselves.
