This European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) Common Procurement Action is managed by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS). It supports cooperation in procuring integrated, multilayered air and missile defence systems, their parts or variants. The goal is to fill capability gaps, strengthen participating countries’ defence capabilities and cooperation, and improve interoperability.
The topic covers sensors such as radars, kinetic or non-kinetic effectors, and command-and-control systems protecting against cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems. Its focus is medium-to-long-range protection at high and terminal high altitude, including endo-atmospheric interceptors. Procurement may concern any life-cycle stage, including establishing, managing and maintaining defence industrial readiness pools. Very-short- to short-range systems against low-altitude unmanned aircraft are excluded.
