    Description

The American Journalism Historians Association (AJHA) offers the annual Joseph McKerns Research Grant to provide research assistance and recognize researchers working on mass media history. The program supports travel and other research-related expenses that help recipients carry out historical research. Awards are made following review and recommendation by AJHA’s Research Committee.

The grant also connects completed research with the association’s readership. Recipients must contribute a brief article to AJHA’s Intelligencer newsletter explaining their research methods, findings, complications, and significance. The program sits within AJHA’s broader mission to advance education and research in mass communication history, emphasizing—but not confined to—American mass communications.
