Description
Albertine Translation supports English translations of French and Francophone books and their publication for American readers. Albertine Foundation operates the program with Villa Albertine’s Books & Ideas department, the Institut français, and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Launched in 2022 as an expanded version of French Voices, it receives support from the Florence Gould Foundation and covers fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children’s books, and comics.
The program recognizes the quality of both the original work and its translation. An independent committee of academics, translators, booksellers, and publishing consultants selects titles reflecting the diversity and vitality of contemporary French literature. Selection also considers promotion and marketing plans and each book’s potential and relevance for the American market.
