The Ernest S. Frerichs Annual Professorship at the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research (AIAR) combines research with leadership in a residential scholarly community. It supports postdoctoral scholars of any nationality working in the humanities and social sciences on cultural development in the southern Levant, from deep prehistory to the Early Modern period. Related disciplines, including museum studies and cultural heritage management, are also considered.
The professor mentors younger Fellows, assists the Director in planning and implementing the Ernest S. Frerichs Program for Albright Fellows, and organizes informal community-building events. The award forms part of AIAR’s annual Fellows program, which brings US, Israeli, Palestinian, and other international scholars together for research and participation in public lectures, field trips, and other academic activities.
