Description
The Alice F. Chang Cancer Wellness Grant is administered by the American Psychological Foundation (APF) to support research and research-based projects that improve the lives of cancer patients and cancer survivors through psychology. The program prioritizes project quality, viability, and potential impact, alongside originality, innovation, and contribution to the field.
The grant was made possible by the Academy for Cancer Wellness, Inc., a nonprofit established in 1995 by Alice F. Chang, John J. Welker, and Gertrude Welker to support cancer patients, their families, and friends. Chang was a scientist-practitioner and breast cancer survivor. Since applications began in 2019, funded work has included brain-tumor patients’ neurocognitive outcomes, culturally informed interventions for adolescent cancer survivors, and refugee history among Vietnamese Americans with advanced cancer.
