    Description

This prestigious Fulbright Scholar award supports U.S. academics in undertaking both teaching and research at Japanese institutions of higher education. Grantees typically teach two undergraduate or graduate courses per semester in their area of expertise, with course selection coordinated with the host university. The reduced teaching load is designed to provide time for a research project that aligns with the scholar’s background; the project must demonstrate a clear need for residency in Japan. In addition to teaching and research, scholars are expected to mentor students, contribute to curriculum or program development, and actively engage in strengthening academic and cultural ties between the U.S. and Japan. Public engagement, such as giving talks and collaborating with the host community, is encouraged to further mutual understanding.
