    Description

The Alpha-1 Foundation’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship supports fellows beginning their research careers in established researchers’ laboratories or under senior researchers’ mentorship. Part of the 2026–2027 In-Cycle Grants Award Program, it combines scientific training with research designed to improve the health of people with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), advance treatment and care, and ultimately find a cure.

The fellowship supports basic science, clinical research, and ethical, legal, and social studies related to AATD. The Foundation’s research agenda encompasses Alpha-1-related lung and liver disease, disease mechanisms, diagnostic technologies, novel therapies, and barriers affecting people with genetic conditions. The fellowship is intended for postdoctoral researchers who plan to pursue careers in AAT research.
