Summary: Supports outsourcing research-related services and research undertaken on a scholar’s behalf instead of international library or archive travel.
Key Information: Applicants must have 15 consecutive months of good-standing NCIS membership or qualifying affiliated partner-group presidency.
The National Coalition of Independent Scholars (NCIS) administers this award to help scholars outsource research-related activities to a third person. It supports professional assistance such as translation, transcription, indexing, copyediting and proofreading, allowing recipients to pay specialists for work connected to their research rather than undertaking every task themselves.
The award can also pay another researcher to conduct research on the recipient’s behalf when this would be a better option than traveling to another country to access a library or archive. Created in 2023, it recognizes Dr. Amanda Haste’s service to NCIS during her presidency from 2015 to 2022 and forms part of the organization’s three-cycle annual grants schedule.
