The Amelia Earhart Fellowship is a Zonta International program supporting women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees with research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences. Established in 1938 in honor of aviator and Zonta club member Amelia Earhart, it addresses women’s significant underrepresentation in these fields and helps them advance into leadership and decision-making roles.
Funded through contributions to the Zonta Foundation for Women Amelia Earhart Fellowship Fund, the program supports advanced studies at universities and colleges offering accredited postgraduate courses and degrees. It seeks applicants with superior academic records and well-defined research programs directly connected to aerospace engineering or space sciences. Fellows have gone on to careers as astronauts, engineers, astronomers, professors, geologists, entrepreneurs and corporate leaders.
