Due Dates (Anticipated): January 2027 (Annual Call for Proposals deadline)

    Funding Amounts: Modest-scale conservation grants

Summary: Supports conservation of threatened livebearing fish through habitat improvement and long-term maintenance in aquaria.

    Description

The James K. Langhammer Fund for Conservation is administered by the American Livebearer Association (ALA) to support conservation efforts for threatened livebearing fish. Its priorities connect work to improve habitat wherever these fish are under threat with the sustained care of threatened fish in aquaria. The fund therefore focuses on both habitat conservation and long-term aquarium maintenance.

The fund honors James Langhammer’s work educating ALA members about the need for conservation. Past ALA Chairman Allen Wood credits Langhammer with helping members recognize the importance of protecting habitat and maintaining threatened fish over the long term. ALA is a scientific and educational membership organization that encourages the study and preservation of freshwater livebearing fishes.
