The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) runs the American-British-Canadian Traveling Fellowship as an international exchange for orthopaedic surgeons. The program recognizes young leaders for their early contributions to orthopaedics and helps them develop leadership skills, connect with orthopaedic leaders and fellowship alumni, and prepare to address critical issues facing the specialty. Host institutions organize academic, leadership, and social experiences that support fellows’ research and career goals.
In odd-numbered years, five American and two Canadian fellows visit orthopaedic centers in either the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, or the United Kingdom and South Africa. These spring tours last four to five weeks. In even-numbered years, fellows from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa visit centers in North America.
