Key Information: Applicants must be ASP members and formally affiliated with an institution that can oversee appropriate use of funds.
The American Society of Primatologists’ Small Research Grant supports research testing hypotheses about the proximate and ultimate processes influencing primate behavior, social organization, development, reproduction, physiology, anatomy, and evolution. Managed by ASP’s Research and Development Committee, the program considers field, zoo, laboratory, and sanctuary research equally. It supports both standalone studies and side projects or additional needs within larger, long-term research programs.
The program emphasizes scientific merit, originality, research quality, methodological feasibility, and potential impact. A required education or outreach component should give back to local or scientific communities through activities such as student involvement, classroom visits, public presentations, or engagement with schools and communities. Projects focused purely on welfare or conservation activities are not eligible.
