Description
The American Surgical Association (ASA) Surgical Leaders Fellowship Grant, jointly supported through this application route by the Society of University Surgeons (SUS), prepares academic surgeons for future leadership roles. It is ideally suited to mid-level or senior academic surgeons with leadership training who would benefit from shadowing experienced leaders. The broader ASA program also seeks to promote diversity in academic surgical leadership.
Fellows spend one week at each of two academic institutions, learning from different ASA-member host leaders. The experience exposes participants to responsibilities and competencies relevant to roles such as Department Chair, Center Director, CEO, or Dean. Fellows are expected to assess their readiness for leadership, identify gaps in their experience and skills, and develop knowledge and perspectives that advance their professional goals.
