The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) Faculty Fellows program is run by American University’s Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), with support from the Milton and Sonia Greenberg Endowment. Fellows develop and carry out scholarly research projects investigating an aspect of their own teaching, with the goal of advancing understanding of factors that affect student learning. They work closely with CFE and relevant campus partners, such as the library, and serve as resources for colleagues interested in SoTL.
The program particularly encourages applications investigating artificial intelligence and its impact on the classroom, as well as broad access in higher education. SoTL emphasizes systematic assessment of teaching practices and research-based approaches to instruction. CFE supports fellows throughout the research process, from developing a research question to publishing results.
