Description
The American Youth Services Grant Program, administered by the Community Foundation of Mendocino County, funds local nonprofits dedicated to enriching the lives of disadvantaged youth and adults through group experiences in natural environments. The program honors the legacy of the American Youth Services nonprofit and is designed to deepen participants' connection to Mendocino County’s unique ecosystems, foster personal and spiritual growth, and promote stewardship of the land and oceans. Projects may also provide opportunities for youth to explore environments and cultures outside Mendocino County for similar purposes.
Priority is given to projects that:
- Encourage personal enrichment and exploration among disadvantaged youth and young adults through group experiences in nature.
- Expose youth to Mendocino County’s natural beauty and ecosystems.
- Inspire stewardship, spiritual growth, and communal well-being.
- Support travel for youth to experience the natural world and culture beyond Mendocino County.
- Improve quality of life for youth on the Mendocino Coast.
Eligible activities may be led by schools, camps, naturalists, nonprofit organizations, tribal communities, churches, and other spiritual practitioners.
