The Applied Mineralogy Group (AMG), a special interest group of the Mineralogical Society of the UK and Ireland, offers travel bursaries to postgraduate students in applied mineralogy, crystallography, petrology and geochemistry. The scheme supports attendance at courses, conferences, workshops and field meetings that benefit the applicant’s research.
Applicants must demonstrate the applied nature of their overall project and its potential impacts. Supported research areas include ore mineralogy and petrology, ore genesis, mineral processing and metallurgy, industrial mineralogy, archaeology, environmental mineralogy, nuclear-waste disposal, medical and forensic mineralogy, and analytical techniques. The AMG committee assesses applications on their likely academic benefits. Awards are made twice yearly, although the committee reserves the right to make no awards in a particular year.
