Description
Caltech’s Amgen Scholars program provides visiting undergraduates with research opportunities in biology, chemistry, and biotechnology-related fields under the guidance of academic scientists. Funded by the Amgen Foundation, the program is part of a national effort to increase research opportunities for students committed to scientific careers. Research projects, seminars, workshops, and networking events prepare participants for a Ph.D. or joint M.D./Ph.D. and research careers in science and biotechnology.
The ten-week experience combines laboratory research with weekly seminars by Caltech faculty and Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists. An academic and professional development series addresses research careers, graduate school admissions, and related topics. Writing workshops, student-faculty dinners, and social and cultural activities complement the research experience.
