    Description

This grant supports the establishment of Animal and Veterinary Innovation Centers (AVICs) through cooperative agreements with academic institutions. The program aims to foster long-term partnerships to address priority research areas for the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Targeted areas include:

    • Development of interventions to prevent, control, or eliminate Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and other emerging zoonotic diseases in animals, with potential One Health approaches.
    • Research on intentional genomic alterations in animals, focusing on regulatory science, agricultural resilience, food security, animal health, and public health.
    • Development of products for minor species, minor uses in major species (e.g., dogs, cats, horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys), and other unmet veterinary medical needs in major species that present significant animal or public health burdens.

The program emphasizes regulatory science, innovation, and collaboration, aiming to accelerate the development and FDA approval of new animal health products and technologies.
