The Ann B. Bussel Award funds creative research directed at understanding and treating Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Funded directly by the Ruth K. Broad Biomedical Research Foundation, it supports human-subject research that complements the foundation’s primarily basic neuroscience research programs. Collaborations between investigators at Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill are especially encouraged.
For the 2025–26 application cycle, the foundation partnered with the Duke/UNC Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) to accept and review applications through a joint process. Proposals are evaluated by internal, external, and community reviewers. The award honors Ann B. Bussel, a longtime foundation board member, for her thirty-year commitment to supporting Alzheimer’s research at Duke and other research institutions.
