The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) offers the Anna C. & Oliver C. Colburn Fellowships to support studies at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA), Greece. The fellowships support predoctoral scholars and researchers within five years of receiving their PhD, enabling work drawing on the School’s libraries, archaeological sites, museum collections, and other materials in Greece.
Supported research explores material culture, architecture, social life, and cultural practices across periods of Greek history. Recent projects have examined daily life aboard Hellenistic ships through cooking and dining vessels, the manufacture and distribution of Mycenaean terracotta figurines, and the movement and reuse of sacred monuments in Roman Greece. Past work also includes bronze production, temple construction, maritime networks, and Byzantine settlements.
