The Society for Church Archaeology’s Annual Research Grant supports research in any area of church archaeology, including fieldwork where appropriate. It welcomes pilot projects, work intended to attract larger grants, discrete studies within larger projects, and small stand-alone investigations. Applications are welcomed from academics, professionals and non-professionals, particularly early career scholars and postgraduate students.
The Society’s broad remit includes the study, conservation and preservation of places of worship of all faiths and denominations. It encourages archaeological and art-historical investigation of religious buildings, their material culture, burial grounds and surroundings. Previous grants have supported osteological investigation, mortar dating, monastic archaeology, sacred landscapes and scientific analysis of archaeological materials.
