The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (APA Division 29) established this grant to promote diversity within the Society and the psychotherapy profession. It supports early career psychologists who are currently conducting psychotherapy research or applied projects, helping them complete work that advances diversity.
The program uses the American Psychological Association’s definition of diversity: individual and role differences involving age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, disability, language, and socioeconomic status. Selection emphasizes scientific quality, feasibility, valuable contributions to psychotherapy, and prospects for publication or further successful research. Recipients are expected to share their results through a scholarly forum or the Psychotherapy Bulletin.
