The Academic Pediatric Association’s Young Investigator Awards Program supports early-career investigators pursuing long-term careers in research and academic medicine. Its focus is improving the health and well-being of children, particularly those most vulnerable. Health equity is central: proposals without a focus on underserved populations or health disparities face a significant disadvantage in review. The program seeks a diverse cohort across lived experiences and academic institutions.
Three funding paths support general pediatric research, national multi-site studies within APA research networks, and original nutrition research in low-income populations. General pediatric domains include health services, medical education, adolescent medicine, public health, epidemiology, emergency medicine, child maltreatment, hospital medicine, and developmental/behavioral pediatrics. Projects should address evidence gaps, be feasible within one year, and help investigators develop through mentorship and career advancement.
