The Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) Emerging Leaders Sponsorship supports participation in the American Library Association’s leadership development program for newer library workers. APALA describes the sponsorship as annual support for one member, contributing toward expenses for the ALA Annual Conference and ALA Midwinter Meeting. It is professional development support rather than a research or project grant.
The ALA Emerging Leaders Program brings participants together in problem-solving work groups, builds peer networks, and provides an inside look at ALA’s structure and opportunities for professional leadership. Following face-to-face meetings, participants work in an online learning and networking environment for six months. The program culminates in a poster presentation of each group’s project planning work at the ALA Annual Conference.
