    Description

The APALA Gayatri Singh Award honors the life and work of librarian-activist Gayatri Singh, who championed social justice and ensuring everyone had a seat at the table. Run by the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, the award supports a member’s participation in a conference, workshop, training, or other professional development opportunity that furthers their understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice.

Recipients choose their own learning opportunity, which may be virtual or in person. The award combines financial assistance with encouragement to sustain APALA membership and organizational participation through professional learning aligned with Singh’s values. Applications are evaluated by APALA’s Scholarship & Awards Committee, with priority given to applicants who do not receive institutional support for professional development.
