The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training’s Governor’s Workforce Board presents two opportunities under Apprenticeship Initiatives & Incentives. Non-Trade Apprenticeship Expansion Grants reimburse eligible planning activities and costs for organizations designing and developing new apprenticeship tracks outside the trades. The grant program supports expansion of non-trade and non-traditional registered apprenticeships that meet Rhode Island’s apprenticeship standards.
The Non-Traditional Apprenticeship Incentive instead pays employers for non-trade apprentices they hire and register after the required probationary period. For this incentive, non-traditional apprenticeships are registered with the Department of Labor and Training and fall outside the construction trades. Both programs are funded by Rhode Island general revenue.
