This Horizon Europe grant supports the development of systematic and context-sensitive approaches for the reuse of vacant, obsolete, or underutilised spaces—including buildings and infrastructure—to address local community challenges and needs. Projects should analyze the drivers behind vacancy and underuse, identify and prioritize spaces for reuse, and assess the impacts and side effects of their transformation. Proposals must engage local stakeholders through co-creation, consider spaces with existing ecological or social functions, and identify funding mechanisms to support reuse. Validation in at least three neighborhoods across different EU or associated countries is required, along with a thorough assessment of the social, cultural, environmental, and economic value of the approach. Recommendations for adapting the methodology to different contexts and effective integration of social sciences and humanities are also expected. A portion of the budget must be allocated to engage with the New European Bauhaus hub for sharing results and contributing to impact assessment.
