Description
The Aquatic Nuisance Control Grant-in-Aid Program supports management of aquatic invasive and nuisance species in Vermont waters. The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources funds the program through motorboat registration revenues and federal funds. The Department of Environmental Conservation’s Aquatic Invasive Species Program, within the Lakes and Ponds Program, administers it.
Supported work includes public-access greeter programs, targeted surveys and spread-prevention activities, and aquatic nuisance control projects. First priority goes to managing new infestations or establishing novel programs, followed by preventing further spread and then recurring maintenance. Projects are assessed for their ability to reduce nuisance impacts on water quality and water use, their feasibility, and their prospects for long-term control. The program has supported more than 70 municipalities since 1994.
