Description
This opportunity, offered by the NSF Arctic Sciences Section, funds research to advance fundamental, process-level, and systems-level understanding of the Arctic region. The solicitation welcomes proposals that address the Arctic's rapidly changing environment, its social and cultural systems, and the region's connectivity with lower latitudes. Projects may be disciplinary, multidisciplinary, or interdisciplinary and are expected to contribute to knowledge about Arctic processes and their global implications.
The program supports a broad range of topics including:
- Natural sciences (e.g., climate, ecosystems, hydrology, glaciology)
- Social sciences (e.g., community health, migration, sustainability, Indigenous knowledge)
- System science, observing networks, and polar cyberinfrastructure
- Coordination and policy activities supporting Arctic research
Researchers are encouraged to engage Arctic communities and Indigenous organizations, and to integrate ethical, logistical, and environmental considerations into their proposals.
