Description
The Washington State Department of Ecology offers Area-wide Groundwater Investigation Grants to help local governments investigate widespread groundwater contamination in Washington. The grants are part of its remedial action funding, administered through the Toxics Cleanup Program. Investigations provide a basis for decisions about environmental cleanup across an area.
Every even-numbered year, Ecology works with local governments to estimate the next 10 years of critical cleanup costs. Those estimates inform its biennial budget request to the governor and Legislature. Grant managers then coordinate funding approved in the biennial budget.
