Summary: Supports researchers new to the South Caucasus in developing projects and local networks in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
Key Information: U.S. citizens only; fellows must conduct full-time, in-country research for at least 30 days.
The American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) offers this fellowship to students and scholars without prior research experience in Armenia, Azerbaijan, or Georgia who are developing their first project in the region. It supports humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences research, helping researchers establish local networks, explore opportunities, and identify resources needed to begin work.
The fellowship emphasizes in-country research and contact-building rather than remote work. Fellows must deliver a public lecture or workshop during their stay. Projects are evaluated for their potential to strengthen scholarship on the South Caucasus and contribute to regional or trans-regional research. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC).
