The American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) supports short-term research in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia across all fields of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The program welcomes doctoral candidates and scholars who have completed their PhDs, with exceptional consideration for applicants outside those career stages. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through a grant to the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.
The fellowships prioritize significant, relevant projects that strengthen regional or trans-regional scholarship and contribute perspectives, experiences, and ideas that advance understanding of the South Caucasus. Fellows conduct their work in the region and must present a public lecture or workshop during their stay.
