The American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) supports individual research projects in Turkey across all fields of the humanities and social sciences. The 2027–2028 fellowships cover research on ancient, medieval, and modern periods, including postdoctoral and dissertation research. Projects may last up to one academic year, and shorter research stays are also considered.
Alongside fellowship support, ARIT provides research and study facilities through its centers in Istanbul and Ankara. These centers connect researchers with colleagues, institutions, and authorities and provide local support for scholarly work in Turkey. The fellowship program is supported in part by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.
