Description
The Arkansas School-Based Health Center Initiative is a competitive program funded by the Arkansas Public School Fund. It is administered by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of School Health Services in collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Health, Department of Human Services, and Medicaid in the Schools. Its goal is to promote health, wellness, and academic achievement in Arkansas public schools.
Districts can use the grant to establish medical and mental health service partnerships, improve existing on-campus services, or add new services. Centers provide care beyond the scope of school nursing, serve as resources for wellness and prevention, and coordinate with students’ existing medical homes. Dental and optometry services may also be offered.
