Description
The Arkansas Natural Resources Division administers this competitive program to improve unpaved public roads while reducing their environmental impact. Established in 2015, it supports safe, cost-effective maintenance on roads with natural-material or crushed-aggregate surfaces. Projects use best management practices to improve drainage, stabilize roads and reduce sediment reaching streams, rivers and drinking water supplies.
The program also promotes road-crew training and demonstrations of innovative maintenance and construction techniques. Projects must benefit a named priority water body. Review gives particular preference to waters supporting threatened or endangered aquatic species, waters impaired by sediment or turbidity, and drinking water sources.
