Description
The Graves Awards recognize outstanding accomplishment in actual teaching in the humanities among early-career faculty at selected private institutions in California, Oregon, and Washington. Administered by Pomona College under the auspices of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), the biennial program supports experiences that strengthen future teaching and professional endeavors in the humanities and interpretive social sciences.
Supported activities may include reading, studying, traveling, attending conferences, and writing. The range of uses is intentionally broad, but applicants must explain specifically how the proposed experience will enhance their teaching. The program prioritizes demonstrated teaching excellence, professional development, and thoughtful connections between past opportunities and future aspirations, taking account of differences in resources and career circumstances.
